![]() The action isn’t bad, but the CGI is shockingly cheap, and any sense of earthbound physics is completely thrown out the window - especially when it comes to Arnold’s fighting abilities. (The scripts still try to shove in lots of jokes, though.) Each episode delivers a high-stakes action set piece, with Luke and Emma employing lots of cool secret agent gadgets that would make James Bond jealous. The action scenes actually come as a relief, then, because at least less people are talking during them. (Luke’s quippy young CIA colleagues, played by Fortune Feimster and Travis Van Winkle, toss out so many punchlines that don’t land, they’re just about insufferable.) FUBAR even gives Arnold a new catchphrase, “That’s it, and that’s all” - but that one’s not exactly going in the hall of fame next to “I’ll be back” and “Hasta la vista, baby,” is it? ![]() Series creator Nick Santora ( Scorpion) tries to keep things light, but the comedic banter here is annoying and relentless, with groan-worthy jokes about Viagra, vibrators and, um, cuckolding. But he gets sent out one last time to rescue a rogue operative - and hey, the operative is his daughter Emma! They’re both upset that the other one has been keeping their CIA job a secret this whole time, but they have to put their differences aside to track down an arms dealer named Boro (Gabriel Luna) who’s dangerously close to developing a suitcase nuke.Īrnold wasn’t kidding when he compared this to True Lies, since it’s nearly the exact same plot, except with a daughter instead of a wife. He plays Luke Brunner, a seasoned CIA operative who’s on the verge of retiring and eager to reconnect with his goody two-shoes daughter Emma, played by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Monica Barbaro. (Have you seen "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar" yet? He's surprisingly great in that.Taylor Swift’s Heartstopper Connection Revealed at LastįUBAR knows where its bread is buttered: It wastes no time in giving us a shot of Schwarzenegger walking away from a fire in slow-motion and driving a sports car real fast while the Rolling Stones play in the background. Meanwhile, co-star Jamie Dornan has proven himself as more than just another bland white dude who can be interchangeably slotted into movies like this, so there's the chance he brings some energy to this movie that it looks like it might need. Also, Gadot has not shown herself to be a particularly versatile performer, but a role like this seems to play to her strengths: It lets her be physical and frown a lot. ![]() It's gloriously dumb in the same way that names like John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Commando") or Mason Storm (Steven Seagal in "Hard to Kill") are gloriously dumb. ![]() No, there aren't any showcase moments here that feel as visceral as anything Tom Cruise has done in the "Mission: Impossible" movies (which are a clear inspiration for this), but there are a few reasons why I think "Heart of Stone" could end up surprising me.įirst, they gave Gal Gadot's character a Classic Action Movie Protagonist name: Rachel Stone. But while it might be easy to write this off as just the latest in a long line of lazy Netflix action movies, I'm not ready to judge this book by its cover. ![]() Now the streamer is hoping to kick off a new action franchise with "Heart of Stone," which puts "Red Notice" veteran Gal Gadot front and center amid some high-flying, explosive, and yes, heavily CGI-enhanced action. ![]()
